Gray day, happy heart

It’s raining buckets today.  I just finished watching the downtown old-fashioned Christmas parade on TV.  So many beautiful wagons.  And a miniature donkey!  Lots of lovely horses, too.  It would have been nice to see the parade in person, but not in this weather.  Oh no.

I got up at 6 o’clock to start working on my apple butter, but didn’t get it into the Crock Pot until almost 8:30!  It took me an hour to peel, core, and chop the apples, and another 40 minutes for it to come to a boil on my stove (worst.stove.ever!).  But now it’s smooth as, well, butter…silky, velvety.  Getting thicker by the hour.  And the cinnamon, cloves, and allspice have made my house smell so warm and spicy.

I’ve been pinning ideas for other little things to tuck into the baskets.  Nuts and candies.  And I’ll make my favorite gingerbread cookies, probably.  I need to make out a schedule for myself for the rest of this month, if I want to get all of these things done.  This will probably be my last lazy weekend of 2011!

Here’s the little hankie I embroidered for myself yesterday.  I used a motif from the book A Rainbow of Stitches, although the little red berries were my own addition.
